Most people considering breast augmentation have read about the PIP implants fiasco, the extent is still to be realised and many court cases are still under way. The problem was that the manufacturer used a product in the manufacturer of the implants that was not approved by the approval bodies which eventually came to light and the product was pulled, after 8 years in the market and most of the big groups using them. This means that there will be well over 100,000 patients now worried. The reason why a manufacturer would do such a thing is difficult to understand, but it is clear that the pressure from the buyers to reduce prices will not have helped their bottom line. Even though these implants were around 50% lower than the leading brands, we at Harley Street Plastic Surgery have never used these implants, and we carry Silimed, Nagor and Allergan implants even though our breast augmentation price is ?3000 we always put patient safety before profits. We are in the process of working with a group of surgeons and the manufacturers to provide a reduced price solution for the unfortunate women now suffering due to profits been placed before patient safety.
