Paula's Story: I wasn't sure how big to go

23rd August 2009

I'd had my first boob job 12 years ago. Recently, I had been been doing a lot of training at the gym and I had started to get very toned. I had lost quite a bit of weight; at the time I had gone from 9st7lb to 8st3lb. Unfortunately, I had lost some of my bust size too, I think it was because of loosing weight and toning up. What concerned me was that I felt a little worried by some ripples that had started to appear on the sides of my breasts under the arms. I could feel ridges in my breast implants and also my nipples had started to drop slightly.

I had seen a consultant who had told me that there was nothing to worry about medically. They were fine and the breast implants had not ruptured or anything. They were just ageing a bit. He did confirm that the ridges were due to the implants and the fact that I now had little natural breast tissue of my own. He also said that if I wanted replacement breast implants then that I would need to go bigger than I am now.

I wasn't sure how much bigger to go. I thought that I was a C cup and I didn't know if I wanted to go to a DD or even an E cup. I found it difficult to know what I would look like and there wasn't much useful information available on the internet. Obviously it is a big decision that isn't easily changed so I needed to be sure that I was making the right choice for my new breast enlargement. I looked at some celebrity plastic surgery pictures on the internet and I tried to find out what bra size they were so that I had an idea of what I might look like. Amongst others, I looked at Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas. One web site said she was one size and another said a different size. I was still none the wiser about what size I wanted to be. I didn't want to end up going for a implant size where afterwards I wished that I had gone bigger. Yet on the other hand, I didn't want to end up with implants that were too large and looked really false with my frame.

I then came across the rice test for breast implant sizing. It was really quick and easy to try out. All I needed to buy was a couple of cheap bras from the local supermarket. I filled up some small plastic food bags with dried rice from the cupboard and tried them out. I experimented with a few different sizes which was easy to do.

I am now a G cup! It sounds really big but I am only a 30" bra size. Along the way, I did find out that I wasn't a 32C to start with but was actually a 30DD so it is important to get measured properly. I used M&S and I thought that they were really helpful. I'm really happy with my new breast implants and pleased with the size that I have chosen.
